Some like it hot… some not, and that’s exactly how this summer heatwave has hit this VW show season.
As you well know I don’t do well in the heat, a few weekends ago I was down in Southsea for a VW show and by mid-day I had to pack up and leave. Temperatures were well into the mid-thirties and at that sort of temperature it’s no fun crouching down in front of cars.
Endless Summer VW show came about this weekend with the weather most defiantly on the turn. I had been looking at the weather forecasts for the last week and they had all been predicting rain. Not just the odd shower but the forecast was for heavy rain all day.
Sunday morning came, and boy was it hard to get out of bed. Dark, gloomy and most definitely raining. To be fair by the time I had got to Basingstoke the weather had started to clear.
After meeting up with some E1K members we trundled off to the venue and the weather was looking bright. So after getting the cars in line for the E1K pitch a quick walk and talk around the showground was done, quickly catching up with friends. Phil Day (long standing friend) appeared on his newly built toy mk1 caddy van with an electric motor in it. It looked the business and went pretty well for such a raw creation. Check the pictures of how good this thing really is.
Numbers were down a little on last year for people entering the show but was bolstered with the amount of clubs on display. To be fair, Endless is a very relaxed and the numbers for those in attendance didn’t seem to dampen the spirits even with the odd down pour.
A good amount of modified VW cars were on display, but I think the amount of T2,T3,T4 & T5 busses slightly had the upper hand. I got caught up talking to one owner (Kevin) who had bought a VW T5 panel van and spent a bit of money on it turning it into a camper. The lightbulb certainly went on regarding this idea. The old grey matter has been working and I think it may be time to upgrade the “PornDub” or at least get it a big sister to play with.
Endless summer has been spoilt over the last few years with getting the good weather, so every now and again mother nature just has to let us know we are not completely in charge of everything. Despite the odd down pour the show get more attendance in the afternoon and the weather did break a little.
The show is a staple for those local and its continues to improve year on year. Make a date for next year if you still haven’t visited and come join the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Till next year…
